Fasting gets a lot of bad press because of how some people can take it to the extremes. You are not going to hear any arguments from me about why it is good for someone to fast themselves for several days in a row. Every test and study shows that it is not good for you to do that to your body, even if you want to lose a lot of weight.
But what many people do not realise is that if you are in a position to fast for 24 hours in a day, one or two times a week, you can help your diet in a serious way. The reason is because you are going to boost your fat loss and weight loss significantly if you fast for 24 hours, so long as you are going back to your regular diet during the rest of the days.
We always tell beginners that one 24-hour fast in a week is what they should be doing if they are serious about losing weight. One is plenty when you are still in the early stages of your weight loss regime. It is also a lot easier to manage than two or three times a week, which is why we want beginners to stick with this number.
When you are fasting for 24 hours a day, you are not going to eat anything that has calories for 24 hours. It means is that if you have a meal that ends at 8pm on a Sunday, then you are not going to put anything in your mouth that has calories until 8pm on Monday night.
Now you may think that it is very difficult but the truth is that it is a lot more manageable than you would imagine. Think about it this way, if you have a nice-sized dinner and you are content, then you will go to bed. Now you will go about the rest of your day in the morning, which includes work, running errands, picking up the kids and other tasks. When you get home, you will want to eat. But then you see the clock and you only have to make it a few more hours until 8pm!
Try it out – fast for 24 hours one time a week. Diet normally the other days and you will see good results!
